AUDIO: JCRC’s post-election analysis through a Jewish lens
More than 100 people gathered at the Nov. 3 meeting of the JUF’s Jewish
Community Relations Council to hear local political scientist Julie
Strauss and Sun-Times Washington Bureau Chief and columnist Lynn Sweet
analyze the factors that led the Republicans to victory in the 2010
midterm elections. Strauss focused on the gains and losses to the Jewish
delegation, which now has 27 representatives in the House and 10 in the
Senate. Sweet, who joked that she has covered politics for nearly 250
years, provided the insider perspective. She noted that the Republic win
will lead to President Obama having a tougher time governing, but might
make it easier for him to win re-election in 2012. Both Strauss and
Sweets said perceptions of the Democrats’ handling of the economy played
an important role in these elections.
