Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White recalled his inspiring interactions with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at JUF’s program commemorating the life and legacy of the civil rights leaders Jan. 18. White, who has served as Secretary of State since 1999, is the founder of the Jesse White Tumbling Team.
“Dr. King inspired people to do what they normally would not do – help their fellow man,” White said during the program. “I’ve experienced a lot of discrimination in my life … It’s a violation of the laws of human decency to dislike someone because of the color of their skin or the way they spell their name – it’s the ugliest card in the deck to play.”
