'Sanctuary' - Jewish life and issues on campus

Issues impacting Jewish life on campus are explored in this edition of "Sanctuary," which aired Aug. 19, on ABC7-Channel 7.

Guests for the half-hour discussion are:

  • Dr. Richard Herman, Chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
  • Daniel Libenson, Executive Director of the Newberger Hillel Center at the University of Chicago
  • Lauren Levy, Northwestern University journalism student and a member of the Lewis Summer Intern team preparing a campus guide to student activism for the Jewish Federation's JUF News.

They examine issues as varied as the emergence of university Israel Studies programs, such as those supported by the Federation's Israel Studies Project; the academic boycott of Israel advocated by some British scholars; and the dramatic changes in the way Jewish students, and the institutions that serve them, communicate and connect with one another. The program is hosted by Jerry Kaye.

This episode of "Sanctuary" is produced by the Jewish Television Commission of the Chicago Board of Rabbis and the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago. "Sanctuary" is broadcast monthly on ABC7. Other episodes are produced by the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Greater Broadcast Ministries.
