My interviews, so far
Permanent linkSeveral years ago, I was approached by PBS. They were airing a concert by David Broza, and they wanted to know if I wanted to interview him. I, of course, agreed, and while that was not the first time I had interviewed a luminary of Jewish music, it was the first time I recorded it.
And now that I have recorded podcasts of two dozen such interviews, I thought it would be nice to put them all in one place, since they are scattered all over the JUF News multimedia page. They are presented roughly in the order in which I did them. I decided not to organize them by genre, so that you can experience the same "musical whiplash," as a friend of mine once put it, that I did as I have wended my way through Jewish music. I haven't interviewed everyone I want to yet, but I'd like to think this is a good start:
Lori Lippitz of The Maxwell Street Klezmer Band
David Chevan of the Afro-Semitic Experience
Ruby Harris of The Diaspora Yeshiva Band and Jazmer
Josh Nelson (the rocker, not Joshua Nelson, the gospel singer)
Frank London of the Klezmatics
Annete Kogan of Golem
Dave Brubeck (not Jewish, but has a surprising amount of Jewish content in his music. And also, could I possibly have turned him down?)
Yoshie Fruchter of Pitom
