Now on 'Sanctuary:' First comes love…What makes marriage work?

Many dream of finding their "bashert," the perfect match they were destined to spend their life with. But it takes more than fate to make a marriage work.

This episode of the public-affairs program "Sanctuary" takes an inside look at marriage, gleaning personal insights into the dynamics of relationships and what can make them successful.

The program, which aired Sunday, Feb. 17, on ABC7-Channel 7 and is now available for viewing on the Jewish United Fund website, features two couples -- Jane and David Shapiro, married 38 years, and Sonya Jacobs Morgan and Bob Morgan, married just over one year -- each discussing their life, their love and what they have learned about keeping their relationship vital and growing.

Adding professional expertise will be Rabbi Leonard Matanky, of Congregation K.I.N.S. and the Ida Crown Jewish Academy, and Rosalie Greenberger, who directs Jewish Child & Family Service's Chuppah Project, a program that counsels engaged couples and helps them focus on the many new experiences they are about to encounter.

This episode is hosted by Cindy Sher.

"Sanctuary" is a joint production of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago and the Chicago Board of Rabbis, in cooperation with ABC7-Channel 7.
