In the most sacred season of the Jewish year, music plays a major role in setting the tone and focusing worshippers on the themes of the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
The next episode of the public affairs program "Sanctuary," which airs at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, on ABC7-Channel 7, journeys through the melodies that elevate the liturgy of the these holy days and explores how, for many, they help define not only the prayers, but the essence of the new year.
The program features two of the Chicago area's outstanding cantors, Hazzan Alberto Mizrahi of Anshe Emet Synagogue, and Cantor Vicky Glikin of Congregation Solel, along with the Solel choir and 13-year-old prodigy Anna Gotskind, who makes her debut as a High Holidays soloist at Anshe Emet this year.
This episode is hosted by Cindy Sher.
Starting the week of Aug. 26, the program will be available for viewing on the Jewish United Fund website, www.juf.org/interactive.
"Sanctuary" is a joint production of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago and the Chicago Board of Rabbis, in cooperation with ABC7-Channel 7.
