Mark Nov. 16 in your smartphone! For the sixth year in a row, JUF's Young Leadership Division's (YLD) Big Event Fundraiser will be the place to be for young Jewish adults in Chicago. This year, expect double the laughs with two headliners—standup comedians, actors, and writers Jim Gaffigan and Amy Schumer—two very funny comedians with two very different styles—to be held at the Sheraton Chicago on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 7:30 p.m.
Past Big Events have featured musician Matisyahu and comedians Sarah Silverman, Andy Samberg, Jimmy Fallon, and Aziz Ansari—who last year drew 2,400 people. This time around, YLD hopes to once again bring in a big crowd with YLD's Big Event Fundraiser all over again.
I am pumped for this year's Big Event Fundraiser because it will feature two very talented comedians Amy Schumer and Jim Gaffigan," said Scott Lieber, 2014 YLD Campaign Chair. "It will be an excellent night for young Jews in the Chicago community to raise money for a great cause while having fun!"
Gaffigan is known for his comedy on laziness and food, including his popular routine on Hot Pockets. His writing and voice work on the animated series Pale Force for Conan led to nominations for both a Broadband Emmy and a Webby Award. He's appeared many times on late night comedy shows like Late Show with David Letterman and Conan, and TV shows ranging from HBO's cult hits Flight of the Concords and Bored to Death to dramatic roles on all three versions of Law and Order.
On the big screen, he's appeared in films like Going the Distance, Away We Go, It's Kind of a Funny Story, and Salvation Boulevard. He also starred in his first Broadway production "That Championship Season."
Gaffigan's 2012 comedy special "Mr. Universe" can be downloaded off the internet for $5. Gaffigan recently wrote a book about fatherhood called Dad is Fat. (Read an interview with Gaffigan about the book on the next page).
Schumer is the creator, star, and writer of Inside Amy Schumer, her Comedy Central television show. Schumer, who is Jewish, recently appeared in her one-hour standup special called "Mostly Sex Stuff."
She was most recently seen on Louie and is appeared on Season 2 of HBO's Girls. She's appeared on The Howard Stern Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Conan, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Schumer recurred on Adult Swim's Delocated and guest starred in a later season of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
She appeared in the feature film Seeking a Friend for the End of the World starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley, and Price Check, an independent film opposite Parker Posy. Schumer's comedy album Cutting placed in the top five of the Billboard Charts.
She originally made her network debut in 2007 on NBC's Last Comic Standing.
"If you like standup comedy, fun times, and philanthropy, you will definitely want to come to the Big Event Fundraiser," said Joe Seigle, YLD President. "This year is particularly exciting with two different acts each bringing a different comedic shtick/genre to the table. Because of our past success with the event, we are working twice as hard in making the night our best yet."
