About Partnership 2000

JUF’s Partnership 2000 (P2K) has been connecting Chicago-Kiryat Gat-Lachish-Shafir for the past fourteen years.  P2K is a program of the Jewish Agency for Israel, that links communities in the Diaspora with communities in Israel, predominantly in the Negev and in the Galilee.  Chicago's P2K Region of Kiryat Gat-Lachish-Shafir is located in Israel’s northern Negev.  Through P2K, more than $1.2 million of funding from JUF’s annual campaign supports projects that promote the region’s development, improve the quality of life for its residents and connects them with Chicago Jewry through “people-to-people” programs.

Location

Chicago’s P2K Region of Kiryat Gat, Lachish and Shafir is located in the northern Negev and is 45 minutes by car from Tel Aviv and approximately one hour from Jerusalem.

Our Chairs

JUF's Partnership 2000 is co-chaired by David Baum (Chicago) and Dan Harkabi (Kiryat Gat-Lachish-Shafir). David Baum currently serves on the board of the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago. He is a member of Am Shalom and of the Green Acres Country Club. David Baum is the CEO of Mechanical Servants, Inc. in Melrose Park.  Dan Harkabi served 20 years in the Israeli Air Force as a major before co-founding an Israeli-based startup that developed technology for USB drives and Flash cards. Currently he is the CEO of Picosmos, an Israeli-based computer technology startup which also focuses on Flash drive technology.

Allocations

The money that Partnership 2000 allocates annually to the Region supports programs for Israel's most vulnerable, it supports programs which build connections between the four communities, and in 2009 is focusing on a new project area called Human and the Environment.

JUF provides additional resources for programs in our Partnership 2000 Region sponsored by the Ethiopian National Project and Youth Futures which provides opportunities and support for children at risk.

JUF’s Partnership 2000 is looking for recipes!!

What better way to connect with our Israeli Partnership than to share a meal with a friend.  As part of our “People to People” program, we are coordinating a recipe exchange between Chicago and our Partnership 2000 Region of Kiryat Gat, Lachish and Shafir.  It’s a great way to share a little bit of ourselves, our culture and community, and at the same time get to know the people of our Partnership - their culture, community, where they came from, and how they came to live in the region.

What kind of recipes and stories are we looking for?

  • From our grandmothers and grandfathers – to our mothers and fathers – to our siblings and aunts and uncles and cousins – to our friends/our chosen families.
  • These recipes and stories we are about to share stand as tributes to the people who have helped shape who we are today.

Do you have a special family recipe to share? Or perhaps, just a favorite dish that you enjoy preparing? We hope you will share it with us, as well impart a little bit of yourself, your family, or simply why you chose this recipe.

How do I participate?

  • Simply submit your recipe and story here.

Translation and conversion tables will be available so all sides can share in the preparations. In addition, we will select many recipes to print in our Partnership 2000 Cookbook – “A Taste of P2K”

All recipes will be tested and space is limited, so get those recipes in to us.
