The Jewish Healing Network of Chicago (JHNC)
“When you’re sick it’s more than just the right medicine that matters.”
At this moment, there are thousands of individuals in the Chicago Jewish community who are struggling with illness or loss, who are in need of emotional, spiritual, and/or practical support. Fortunately, JHNC is here to offer the comfort of human connection, support and assistance when people need it most.
JHNC: Supporting you in times of illness and loss was established in 2000 by the Jewish Federation, Jewish Child and Family Services, Council for Jewish Elderly and the Chicago Board of Rabbis. JHNC is dedicated to ensuring that all members of our community who need help and guidance are able to identify and access health care, social services and spiritual resources.
JHNC helps people navigate the health care world through education, support services and referrals to appropriate agencies. The program draws upon Jewish tradition by bringing spirituality into healing, providing Bikur Cholim (visiting the sick) training in synagogues, spiritual support for Jews in recovery from alcohol and other drug addictions, a Nursing Home Visiting Program and Shaarei Chesed: Palliative and Hospice Services.
In 2006, more than 400 individuals contacted JHNC for help finding a caregiver for an elderly parent, an AA group in a synagogue, or a rabbi to talk to about the death of a child. We are seeking funding to ensure that JHNC will always be there when members of our community face life’s most challenging moments.
