The JUF Lawyers Division offers unique opportunities to engage and thank our donors through the Cardozo and Judge Abraham Lincoln Marovitz Societies ($10,000+ and $5,000+ respectively). Many of the top leaders of JUF have roots in the Lawyers Division and we are well represented on the JUF/JF Board of Directors. In future newsletters we will be looking back at the history of the division and focusing more closely on what we are doing today. We are always interested in developing new leaders so please let us know if you are interested in getting involved. This newsletter strives to inform our Giving Society members on campaign updates, upcoming events, insider information on happenings in the community, and links to articles of interest. We hope you will find these newsletters both informational and interesting! Keith Shapiro, 2009 Lawyers Division Chair

The JUF Annual Campaign currently stands at slightly over $60 million with three months left to raise our budgeted goal of $78 million. Over the next few months we will be reaching out to past donors to ask that they re-commit to supporting our Federation's mission and to helping JUF raise the dollars needed to provide for critical services in our community. For a more in depth look at some of the challenges we face this year please read the piece of JHelp in one of the following sections of this newsletter. The JUF Lawyers Division stands at $7.5 million from 1,300 donors. Typically, the Lawyers Division represents about 12% of the overall campaign. Our efforts reaching out to colleagues and peers throughout the year are instrumental in the overall success of the campaign. Debbie Berman (Jenner & Block) and Jason Peltz (Bartlit Beck Herman Palenchar & Scott) are heading up the Lawyers Division's End of Year campaign efforts, alongside JUF's overall EOY chair Bill Silverstein, and there will be opportunities to participate in closing gifts over the coming weeks. If you have not yet made your 2009 JUF Annual Campaign gift please consider doing so before the end of the year. Donate online now » |
 | | J-HELP: A Boost in Tough Times is an 18-month initiative launched by JUF/JF to help people in our community who have been hit hard by the economic downturn. While JUF/JF allocates over $22 million annually to provide for the basic needs of the most vulnerable members in the community, the planning, allocating and fundraising elements of the J-HELP initiative are enabling us to respond in significant ways to significant increases in demand for services in the three core areas: basic emergency needs, targeted social services and access to Jewish life. Please note that supplemental and JUF Annual Campaign dollars are supporting this special initiative. Click on the link below to read more on J-HELP and who this initiative has helped thus far.
