LOOKING FOR AN EXCITING AND REWARDING SUMMER EXPERIENCE?
Camp TOV is a week long, fun and interactive service oriented day program for teens on wheels. Each day will bring a new volunteer project and service-learning experience, focusing on topics such as: poverty, hunger, homelessness, environmental concerns, caring for the elderly, leadership skills and more. Teens from throughout the city and suburbs of Chicago, in addition to Israeli teens from our P2K Region, will be brought together for what promises to be a memorable summer learning experience!

ENVIRONMENTALISM IN ACTION!
Do you enjoy the outdoors or care about helping the environment? If so, please save the date for Sunday, June 1st from 1-4pm for our TOV-MTV (Monthly Teen Volunteering) project! We will meet at Ryerson Conservation Area in Deerfield, where we will interactively learn about the environment and collectively take part in a hands-on habitat restoration project. MAKE A DIFFERENCE: APPLY NOW FOR VOICES AND KOLOT
High school students, do you want to make a difference in your Jewish community, Israel and the world? VOICES and KOLOT are hands-on youth philanthropy programs that give teens the opportunity to allocate at least $25,000 to important causes and make an impact on the world today. These programs invite you to combine tzedakah and tikkun olam in an exciting new way. Visit Voices and Kolot to learn more and to download an application. Applications are due by June 15. WRITE ON FOR ISRAEL
Write On for Israel, a program of JUF News and JUF's Community Foundation for Jewish Education of Metropolitan Chicago, is a highly selective, two-year advocacy training fellowship for juniors and seniors attending both public high schools and Jewish day schools. Focusing on Israel and Zionist education and the development of skills in the areas of writing, public speaking, and research, the program draws students from all areas of the Jewish community, from those who are essentially non-observant to those who consider themselves Modern Orthodox. ADOPT A BEACH!

Who doesn't enjoy spending time at the beach? Ever wish your beach wasn't littered with trash and other unnatural items? Join us for a unique TOV-MTV (Monthly Teen Volunteering) project, where we will be adopting a beach in the northern suburbs. Participate in a litter monitoring scavenger hunt, test the water quality at the beach and assess for other improvements to help make the beach a cleaner, safer place. Get information on other teen volunteer and philanthropy initiatives. Parents and younger siblings are welcome!

When: Tuesday, July 15 (Rain date: Tuesday, July 22)
Where: A beach in the northern suburbs, details to follow soon
Time: 3:00-5:30pm

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FIRST CHICAGO JEWISH TEEN LEADERSHIP AWARD NOMINEES AND WINNERS!
This year seventeen outstanding high school juniors were nominated for the first ever Chicago Jewish Teen Leadership Award. The award is made possible by a Priority Grant from Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago. These high school juniors were nominated because of their extraordinary service and leadership within the Chicago Jewish community. The nominees are:

It was an extremely difficult decision, but a committee of lay people and professionals selected the first three Chicago Jewish Teen Leadership Award winners. Congratulations to Joanna Greenberg (Highland Park High School), Samuel Hamer (Northside College Preparatory High School), and Adam Weisz (William Friend High School)!

Joanna, Sam and Adam will serve as ambassadors to the Jewish teen community this year. Each will receive $1,800 toward any Jewish educational experience, and they will get to meet lay leaders and professionals from the Chicago Jewish community.

JEWISH TEENS YOU SHOULD KNOW
Beginning this month we will feature a brief interview with one or more Jewish teens you should get to know. This month we kick off the new feature with an interview with Sam Hamer, one of the three winners of the Chicago Jewish Teen Leadership Award. Want to be featured or know someone else who should be? Sam Hamer, a native Chicagoan, is a junior at Northside College Prep. He is Principal Violist in his school orchestra, a member of the chess, softball, baseball and ultimate Frisbee teams, a Junior Statesman of America, a basketball announcer/manager, a member of the Jewish Student Union and recycling clubs, serves as a peer mediator, and was inducted into National Honors Society. He attends religious school/Hebrew school weekly, attends services at his congregation weekly, has been a member of Noar Chadash, the Reconstructionist youth movement, and last summer he participated in the JCUA Or Tzedek program and traveled to Israel for two weeks. In his spare time he conducts historical and scientific research.

I played competitive table tennis for a few years up till high school.
