This summer, teens will really make a difference
Calling all 8th-10th-grade Jewish teens: What will you do to make a difference this summer? Sign up for Camp TOV, where you’ll learn how volunteering and service can be part of your life. You’ll participate in hands-on volunteer opportunities and fun activities, and you’ll learn about the needs in your Chicago community. Camp TOV wil run for two one-week sessions in August.
Growing array of innovative programs attract teens
With academics, sports and extra-curricular activities, it isn't unusual for teens today to be highly overscheduled. For those teens with a strong Jewish affiliation—either from home, camp or their synagogue—Jewish youth groups and organizations are a top priority. But studies show that the majority of Jewish teens look at their long list of extracurricular options and relegate the Jewish ones to the bottom.
Santa’s little helpers
For Jan and Kelly Caplan, Christmas isn’t just an excuse to see a movie and eat Chinese food. Rather, Christmas Day is the time when this mother and daughter duo volunteer at Catholic Charities’ Bishop Edwin M. Conway Residence for seniors near Humboldt Park. The Caplans, of Deerfield, volunteer at the senior residence every Christmas through JUF’s TOV Volunteer Network’s Merry Mitzvot Project, which offers one-time volunteer opportunities for people in the Chicago Jewish community.
