Synagogue Programming
TOV is a resource for synagogues. TOV helps congregations plan a wide range of volunteer projects for synagogue groups, religious school classes and individual congregants. TOV also helps synagogues plan mitzvah days and fairs. TOV committee and staff members are available to set up TOV information tables at mitzvah fairs and to speak to synagogue groups of students or adults about ways to volunteer their time.
Mitzvah Fairs
The greater Chicagoland area is home to hundreds of social service agencies serving many different segments of the population. TOV has established relationships with over sixty Jewish Federation affiliated and other agencies and will work with synagogues to select agencies to participate in mitzvah fairs.
In addition, TOV is always available to set up an information table at a mitzvah fair or to send a representative to speak to congregants about TOV and getting involved in volunteering.
Mitzvah Days
Together, TOV and the agencies with whom TOV works will assist you in finding agencies and opportunities that fit your congregation’s interests so that you can create a day of meaningful volunteerism. TOV can help with ideas for on-site activities and volunteering at agencies.
Opportunities include…
- Visiting the elderly and the sick
- Preparing food for or serving food to the hungry
- Restoring a synagogue
- Playing sports with children and young adults with disabilities
- Making flashcards that will be used to teach English to new immigrants
- …and much more!
Education and Outreach
TOV staff and committee members are available to speak to synagogue sisterhoods, brotherhoods, social action committees, youth groups, religious school students and teachers and others. Contact TOV to arrange for a speaker. TOV is here to get the word out about volunteering!
