Katey Sagal

Katey Sagal

Katey is one of the most succesful TV actors ever, being one of the very few to ever star in an amazing four hit shows! Her latest one is called Sons of Anarchy and it's about a biker gang run by Ron Perlman that takes over a small town.

Katey was a regular in Boston Legal and Eli Stone, but the first she starred in was Married…With Children, in which she played the obnoxious mom to the Bundys, a family of slobs.

The second was Futurama, a sci-fi parody animation by Matt Groening, mastermind of The Simpsons. Katey played Leela, a kung-fu-fighting, purple-haired, one-eyed mutant spaceship pilot from the year 3000! (sigh... we're in love!) The show ended, but they keep putting out videos and TV specials... and now it's back on again with new episodes!

And then she was with Rachel Bilson in 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter, in which she played a mom... but very much not like Peg Bundy!

Next, you can see Katey on the big screen in Jack and the Beanstalk, a modern re-imagining of the classic story. Gilbert Gottfried and Wallace Shawn are in it, too. And she's in the romance I'm Reed Fish, with up-and-comers Jay Baruchel and Shiri Appleby.

But what most people don’t know is that Katey can really sing, too! She has studied both voice and acting since she was 5. After years as a singing waitress, she sang behind everyone from jazz and country stars Etta James and Tanya Tucker to Bette Midler... and even Gene Simmons from KISS. Katey has two of her own albums out, too, and even wrote some of the songs.

A lot of Katie’s family was in showbiz. Katey’s dad, Boris, was a Jewish immigrant from Russia who was a TV and movie director in America. He worked on the Twilight Zone and other shows, and even directed an Elvis movie! Her mother was a producer. And Katie’s younger sisters are famous twins-- Doublemint Twins! Which means they were famous for being in commercials for Doublemint Gum (which is made by Wrigleys, who also helped build Wrigley Field, where the Cubs play. No the Wrigley family is not Jewish, but their gum is kosher!).

Half of KISS is Jewish!

Gene Simmons was born Chaim Witz in Haifa, Israel! And his KISS bandmate, Paul Stanley, also is Jewish.
