Tween Volunteers

You like a lots of things, like make new friends... do stuff that's creative or outdoors or just plain fun... and change the world for the better.

But what if we told you that you can do all those things at the same time?!

Well, you can. You can volunteer through TOV. TOV (which rhymes with "stove") is the Hebrew word for "good," and you'll be doing good as soon as you pick your project and sign up! You can volunteer with your friends, classmates, or family.

But T-O-V also stands for "Tikkun Olam Volunteers." "Tikkun Olam" is the Jewish way of saying "repairing the world." And if you look around, you'll see a lot of things that need fixing!

Well, no one can do it all at once... or all alone. That's why we created TOV, which links these projects with the people who have the energy and drive to do them. Like you!

Here on the Tween Page, we will list many ways you can help, with projects picked just for you and your fellow terrific tweens who really want to change the world.

See the TOV page to find out more, sign up, and help make a difference!

Camp TOV

And this summer, you can make a difference by joining a camp with a difference-- Camp TOV!

With Camp TOV, you’ll learn how volunteering and service can be part of your life. You’ll participate in hands-on volunteer opportunities and fun activities, and you’ll learn about the needs in your Chicago community.

In one week, you'll help the hungry, visit the elderly, assist the environment and learn about the social service needs of Chicago... all while having fun, meeting new tweens, and getting a jump on earning those community service hours for school!

Camp TOV will run for two one-week sessions in August. Read more about Camp TOV... then sign up! Or call the TOV hotline at 312-357-4762 for your application.

Spring Mitzvah Mania

Mitzvah Mania And if you are a Mitzvah Maniac, catch Spring Mitzvah Mania now!

Mitzvah Manias take place in fall, winter and spring, offer many holiday related projects, and are the perfect opportunity for families, groups and tweens to perform the mitzvah of tikkun olam in the greater Chicagoland area.

Spring Mitzvah Mania takes place during the weeks surrounding Passover, Easter, Yom Hashoah, Earth Day, Mother's Day and Yom Ha’atzmaut.

This year, tweens and their faimilies can catch Spring Mitzvah Mania with TOV to:

  • Host a Seder for Alzheimer’s patients.
  • Fix up the house and garden of developmentally disabled people.
  • Serve ice cream at a Mother’s Day party at a nursing home.
  • Do arts and crafts to benefit agencies that help people.
  • Help set up a party to honor 250 volunteers.
  • Organize a food pantry.
  • Serve or deliver meals to needy people and families.
  • Bring your dog to visit with the elderly, or play bingo with them (or both, if your dog’s name is B-I-N-G-O!).

So "Spring" into "Mitzvah" action with TOV... and see what all the "Mania" is about!
