YLD Board Member Bio


Emily Berman is serving her second year on the YLD Board and will serve as a Vice President of the Executive Committee. Emily grew up in Louisville, KY where she attended Goldman Union Camp Institute, Jewish Day School, and Alexander Muss High School in Israel. She graduated magna cum laude from Indiana University with a dual degree in Philosophy and Jewish Studies. She has traveled to Israel six times and spent six months studying Jewish-Catholic relations in Rome, Italy. Emily currently works as the Deputy Director of Strategic Partnerships and Global Affairs for Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Before working for the City of Chicago, Emily spent four years at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee both in Chicago and Washington, D.C. During her time at AIPAC, she was the State Director for Minnesota, Indiana, and Iowa, a National Field Organizer, and the Midwest Deputy Political Director for 89 Congressional Districts. Emily has attended numerous YLD and JUF events, has been a LEADS leader, and has completed the two-year Florence Melton Program at Anshe Emet. In her spare time she volunteers with Blind Services Association. Emily is excited to join the YLD Board to enhance her passion of connecting young professionals to Israel and the Jewish community.
