Committees

About YLD Committees

YLD committees are a vital part of Jewish Chicago’s young adult community. By joining a committee, you will meet with peers who share your interests. Together, by discussing Jewish experiences and goals, you’ll decide as a group what you would like to achieve in your involvement with the wider Jewish community.

YLD committee members have three primary responsibilities:

  1. To participate in events organized by your committee
  2. To help recruit attendees for committee events
  3. To make a financial gift to the Jewish United Fund-Israel Emergency Fund

Become a leader and strengthen your ties to the Chicago Jewish community by joining the YLD committee that best suits your interests. Committees form at the beginning of September and last through the academic year. If you are interested in serving on a committee, the 07/08 YLD general interest form will be posted in September. You can note your interest in joining on this form at that time.

Choose The Committee That's Right For You!

Business Professionals Network Committee (BPN) provides an opportunity for young Jewish business professionals to network and attend programs in their professional field, as well as other fields. Past programs have focused on topics such as real estate, biotechnology, the business of sports, and investment strategies for individuals. The committee meets two to three times a year and participating committee members help to plan three events.

Shared Shabbat Committee is YLD’s newest committee. Members gather a few times during the year to help plan two to three large community Shabbat dinners. Details to be discussed will include dinner themes, seating arrangements, blessing assignmens, menu development and other aspects of the event.

Volunteer Committee is for those with a passion for mitzvah work and volunteering. Members serve as site leaders for various volunteer projects throughout the year and help structure a community-wide volunteer program based on project availability.

YLD Campaign Events' Host Committees are perfect for someone who is interested in promoting and participating in YLD's exciting Campaign events. These committees seek individuals to help build excitement for Campaign related events, such as the Ben Gurion Society Main Event (for donors at $1,000 and up) in November and the Annual Event (for donors $365 and up) in January/February.

Stand Up As A Leader!

YLD offers exciting opportunities for people to assume leadership roles in the Jewish community. These opportunities typically involve leading a group of your peers while working with YLD Board Members and YLD Staff. Leadership opportunities require an increased level of responsibility and commitment.

YLD Group Leaders must:

  • Make a meaningful donation to the Jewish United Fund-Israel Emergency Fund.
  • Attend, participate and lead a group of young Jewish community members.
  • Participate in leadership development and educational programs with other leaders in the YLD community.
  • Follow up with group members throughout the year.
  • Recruit people to join the program for which you are serving as a leader.
