Summer Camps, Youth Movements, Teen Groups

In collaboration with the IEC, these pre-college programs create a lasting bridge between grade school, high school students and Israel through educational and advocacy programs. As part of their journey in connecting with Israel, we are able to offer a continuum of opportunities as they progress into college and beyond.

Summer Camps

JCC Camp Chi: Now entering its seventh year, funded entirely through a grant from the Lillian and Larry Goodman Foundation facilitated by the Israel Education Center, Camp Chi uses experiential learning techniques to explore Israel's history, culture, and current events. The program, designed for middle and high school age campers, creates a new generation of Jewish leaders as it strengthens the campers' connection and identity to the Jewish state. The programs goal is that they will be better informed supporters who can counter unfair portrayals of Israel in the classroom, on campus, in the media, and beyond.

Camp Ramah: The IEC supports the Israel Education Project at Camp Ramah which trains counselors to incorporate Israel education through the unique lens of summer camp.

Jewish youth movements and teen groups

The Israel Education Center provides funding and plays an advisory role in planning programs with the youth movements and teen groups. Special activities such as Excursion Days or guest lecturers with groups including Shorashim, Jewish Student Connection and others are made possible through funding from IEC.

Modern Israel: Holy Land and Jewish State

In partnership with the Archdiocese of Chicago that currently has teachers in 13 of the 40 Catholic high schools, modern Israel is integrated in the curriculum of classes as diverse as American Literature, World Religions, Journalism and Environmental Science. By bringing educators to Israel and working directly with them on their return, we are changing the discourse for thousands of students and by extension their friends and families. These are largely highly motivated students, 98% of whom go on to attend college and become leaders in their ethnically diverse communities. The ultimate goal of our staunch partners in the Archdiocese is to have this program in every Catholic high school in the Chicago area.

"Working with the IEC has sharpened my knowledge and perspective of the relationship America has with Israel--not simply a strategic one, but a common sense one of enduring friendship."
