Congrats to our February Volunteer of the Month: Jordan Salins! We couldn't do what we do without the help of our incredible volunteers like you.
Jordan has been a dedicated volunteer with TOV for the past 7 years. This year Jordan is a part of our Good Deeds Day Committee. We wanted to get to know Jordan a little bit more, so he answered some of our questions below.
1. How did you first get involved with TOV/JUF?
I
first got involved with JUF and TOV at a young age. Staying active in the
Jewish community and volunteerism has always been important to my family, and
those values were instilled in me early on. I really became active with the JUF
and TOV after moving back to Chicago in mid-2012. I began learning more about
the organization and started volunteering regularly and attending social
events. Recently, I have become even more actively involved, and now serve as a
member of the Volunteer Committee, participated in Mensches in Motion
(currently serve as co-leader for the current Mensches in Motion group), and am helping plan Good
Deeds Day in my function as committee member.
2. What makes
it important for you to volunteer through TOV?
Embracing the concept of Tikkun Olam is of utmost importance to me. It's
essential to remember that there are many Jews around the world, and even many
Jews right here in Chicago, that are in need of help, whether it be food,
family services, career assistance, or medical care. TOV makes the process of
volunteering and finding new opportunities very easy and rewarding.
3.
Are there any fun facts about you that we might not know?
I am getting
married in November. Even though we met online, as
fate would have it, my fiance works for the same company and in the
same office as my mom in Deerfield. I guess you could say it was B'Sheret!
We are so lucky to have Jordan as part of our TOV family! To learn more about JUF's important work in the community, sign up to volunteer, or make a donation in Jordan's honor, please visit our website.
