SUMMARY:Fragile X in Focus: Research\, Awareness\, and Testing
DESCRIPTION:Join us this July for Fragile X Awareness Month as we bring together leading researchers from Northwestern University for an informative and engaging webinar on fragile X syndrome and the fragile X premutation. Discover how language\, cognition\, and development are impacted across the lifespan\, and learn about common co-occurring conditions associated with these genetic diagnoses. Researchers will share insights from their latest studies\, discuss emerging findings\, and highlight opportunities for individuals and families to participate in ongoing research. Additionally\, the Sarnoff Center’s Genetic Counselor will provide an overview of important genetic considerations for the Jewish community\, including carrier screening\, testing options\, and resources for families. Whether you are a family member\, professional\, researcher\, or community member\, this webinar offers a unique opportunity to learn from experts at the forefront of fragile X research and advocacy. \nFacilitator: Molly Losh\, PhD \nMolly Losh is the Jo Ann G. and Peter F. Dolle Professor of Learning Disabilities in the Roxelyn and Richard Pepper Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and the Associate Dean for Research in the School of Communication at Northwestern University. Her research focuses on autism and related neurodevelopmental conditions\, with a specific focus on understanding the basis of language and communication impairments that span diagnostic boundaries. Work from her lab has helped to identify key cognitive mechanisms that may underlie the social-communicative impairments in autism\, in order to bridge gaps between observable clinical behaviors and underlying biology\, necessary for understanding the causes of autism and related conditions.
