Civic Engagement Launchpad

Policy. Leadership. Impact

Join a diverse cohort of Chicago-area Jewish teens as you explore the many levels of policymaking, advocacy, and lobbying that play a key role in shaping the society we live in. Through an intensive five-day experience that begins in Chicago and includes three days in Washington, DC, you will engage with issues, approaches, strategies, and a wide range of perspectives as you begin to build your own personal toolkit for effective engagement and impact.

Program Highlights

  • Participate in a two day training session in Chicago followed by a three-day trip to Washington, DC
  • Visit iconic Washington, DC sites that are integral to our nation's history  
  • Engage with young adults who work and intern in an array of positions on Capitol Hill, on political campaigns, in think tanks, and in lobbying organizations
  • Meet with members of the Illinois Congressional delegation and their senior staffers, as well as representatives of a variety of NGOs who help shape policy on a range of issues of concern to the young Jewish community
  • Share this experience with a cohort of excited, interesting peers with whom you'll make lasting memories!

FAQ

Q: I don't have any experience with politics or civic engagement. Is this the program for me?
A: Absolutely! Jewish Civic Engagement Launchpad is the perfect opportunity to join the conversation and learn how you can make a difference.

Q: Who is running this program? 
A: This program is run by the Campus Affairs and Student Engagement department at the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago.

Q: Can you accommodate my dietary restrictions?
A: All food will be certified Kosher. If you have any allergies or additional dietary restrictions, please let us know in advance and we will make the appropriate accommodations. 

Q: Where will the program be held?
A: The program begins Saturday evening in Chicago.  Participants and chaperones will fly together to Washington DC on Monday and return late in the day on Wednesday.
