Iowa Flood Relief Volunteer Mission, Sept. 9-10Since May 25, 2008, severe flooding has forced 40,000 Iowans from their homes. 86 counties have been officially declared disaster areas. The JUF TOV Volunteer Network, in partnership with Nechama - Jewish Response to Disaster, has planned a two day volunteer mission to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to salvage homes, clean up devastated neighborhoods, and help flood victims. The bus will depart from a city location to be confirmed upon registration on Tuesday morning, September 9 at 6:00 a.m. and will return Wednesday evening, September 10 around 7:00 p.m. Volunteers should wear long pants and work boots or sneakers you can work in throughout the day. There are two options for lodging for mission participants. Volunteers can book a room at the Comfort Inn North in Cedar Rapids for $85/night, or they can stay in shared sleeping accommodations with showers provided through Nechama at no charge. Bring your enthusiasm for Tikkun Olam and we’ll provide the training, tools, and the opportunity of a lifetime to make a difference! The Tikkun Olam Volunteer (TOV) Network is JUF's connection point for people who want to donate their time to help others in need. In accordance with tikkun olam, the Jewish concept of repairing the world one good deed at a time, TOV places members of the Jewish community with Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation affiliated agencies and with community service projects that need volunteers.
