Designing Babies: Where Science Meets the Law
November 18, 2026 • Wednesday, 11:45 am - Wednesday, 1:15 pm
Join the Womenʼs Bar Association of Illinois for a one-hour Hybrid CLE program. Sponsored by the Decalogue Society of Lawyers and the Jewish United Fund’s Norton and Elaine Sarnoff Center for Jewish Genetics, this hybrid event offers the option to attend in-person (with kosher lunch provided) at the Jewish United Fund in Chicago, or virtually via Zoom. This program examines how reproductive genetics and evolving law shape decisions about the genetic characteristics of future children. The legal portion will explore the post-Dobbs landscape, including differing state laws, PGT, personhood legislation, frozen embryos, surrogacy, and emerging reproductive technologies. The scientific portion will explain carrier screening, preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), polygenic embryo testing, and gene editing, including their uses and limitations.
Participants will gain a clearer understanding of current clinical practice and the legal issues affecting patients, providers, and attorneys.
