Civic Engagement
JUF shows up across civic life to make sure our community’s voices are heard, understood, and included. We build relationships that open doors for honest dialogue, stronger partnerships, and a deeper understanding of Jewish life in and around Chicago.
Through the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) and our Government Affairs Office, we stay closely connected with elected officials, local leaders, and community partners at every level. Our goal is simple: ensure Jewish Chicagoans have a real seat at the table when decisions are made that shape our daily lives.
We also work to broaden understanding of Israel and the multiplicity of Jewish identities. We promote shared experiences and conversation across differences that help break down assumptions, strengthen trust, and ensure our community is represented with nuance, accuracy, and respect.

JUF’s Jewish Community Relations Council
As the central body for 43 leading Jewish organizations in Chicago, the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) works to address key community issues concerning the Jewish community, including the fight against antisemitism, interfaith and intergroup relations and Israel. We build strong relationships with civic and government leaders, engage our community to elevate our collective voice, and advocate for policies that support and protect Jewish life.

Government Affairs
We work to ensure state and local policy reflects the needs and concerns of the Chicago-area Jewish community. By strengthening relationships with lawmakers, coalition partners, and community leaders, we work collectively to advance priorities, including safety, human services, nonprofit sustainability, and equitable resource access.
JUF’s state and local government affairs teams deliver results for our community, advocating in the Illinois General Assembly and in city and town halls across the Chicago region to advance the priorities of our affiliated agencies and protect communal interests.
