Camila holds the distinction of being the only person at her alma mater, Northwestern, to have been honored by both Hillel and Chabad, a fun fact that makes sense considering her leadership in activities across the Jewish spectrum.
Camila remains deeply committed to welcoming others into the Jewish fold: She is a devoted congregant of Anshe Sholom B'nai Israel and serves as the Vice President of Membership; she hosts congregants frequently for Shabbat and holidays; and she volunteers as a
mikvah
attendant. During the pandemic, she also organized a drop off for
Mishloach Manot
(Purim baskets) at individual homes.
She's helping repair the world outside of the Jewish community, too. When Camila, of Jewish Venezuelan ancestry, saw Venezuelan migrants sleeping at the police station, she responded by bringing them food, organizing clothing donations, and enlisting her colleagues to pack 200 hygiene kits to distribute.
Camila-who works in the technology field at Northwestern Memorial Hospital-pays it forward, mentoring other women in tech, as well as mentoring first-generation high school students applying to college.
