After giving birth to her second child, Lauren-an estate planning attorney-realized that working a traditional law job didn't mesh with her family's life. So, while still working at another practice, she launched her own firm specializing in estate planning for young families-after her two sons went to bed.

She feels lucky to use her legal skills to give back. As a volunteer with the JUF Evelyn R. Greene Legal Services, Lauren recently did pro bono work with a Holocaust survivor to complete her estate plan. She helped ensure the survivor would be taken care of in the event of incapacity, and that her assets would be passed on to those she cares most about.

Lauren grew up in Dayton as one of five kids. She gained her love of Judaism from her parents and grandparents, day school, and camp. Today, she serves as a member of JUF's Young Women's City Council and Young Lawyers Group, and a member of ADL Midwest's associate board.

It's "a gift," she said, to care for her own family, while helping other young families ensure their children and legacies are protected.

AGE:
35

PRIMARY GIG:
Estate Planning attorney for young families at Kaplan Estate Law LLC

ON THE SIDE:
Mom of two energetic boys and a newborn

DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN 10 WORDS OR LESS:
Never says no to a good cookie.

CELEBRITY DOPPELGANGER:
The Claire Dunphy character in Modern Family— more so that I relate to her chaotic mom energy.

A JEW WHO INSPIRES YOU:
Since October 7, Debra Messing has been an incredibly strong voice for Israel and for the Jewish people, and it was incredible to see her speak at the March for Israel in DC, which I attended as part of the JUF delegation. I also was a huge fan of Will & Grace growing up; I loved how she embraced her Judaism in the show—even giving a shout out to our shared Camp Ramah!

YOUR BEST PIECE OF ADVICE:
Step outside of your comfort zone. When I moved to Chicago for law school, I knew a lot of people from camp and college. However, when my oldest was born, I knew it was important for both he and I to make new friends, so we participated in all of the jBaby programs we could and met so many new people.
