Maiky credits his grandparents-pioneers of the Jewish community in his hometown of La Paz, Bolivia-with his philanthropic bent. As "past recipients of generosity," he said, his grandparents believed in giving back-a value they transmitted to their grandson.

When Maiky immigrated to the U.S. close to 15 years ago, JUF was his "gateway" to the Chicago Jewish community. Like his grandparents, he wanted to give back to the community that helped him. So, during his time on the YLD Board, he Chaired its Volunteer Committee, and served twice on TOV's Good Deeds Day Committee. Following Hurricane Maria, he participated in TOV's 2018 relief mission to Puerto Rico, and recently even became certified to work with American communities vulnerable to natural disasters.

Professionally, the recent Harvard Business grad is making the world better, too-as co-founder of RESILIFT, Inc., a company that prevents home flooding by elevating houses above rising waters.

As his fellow YLD board member put it: Maiky "will never say no, and always ask to do more."

Fun-loving Jewish Latino immigrant striving to repair the world.

SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT ME:
My mom is a professional chef, and her love language, in typical Jewish mother fashion, is food—a trait I inherited. I have a passion for cooking and hosting dinner parties. My friends and I often explore new restaurants.

A JEW WHO INSPIRES YOU:
My older brother, Aby, who left Bolivia at 18 to join the IDF. He served in Tzanhanim as a lone soldier, one of the many in Israel tirelessly working to ensure our people’s safety. I will always be grateful for him, and the sacrifices made by soldiers like him.

YOUR BEST PIECE OF ADVICE:
Surround yourself with good people, remind them what they mean to you, and always show up for them.
