Shira exemplifies the Jewish value of
chesed
-lovingkindness-in the way she lives her life.
She both works at and participates in Yachad-a nonprofit dedicated to enriching the lives of Jewish people with disabilities and ensuring their participation in Jewish life. In her role, Shira helps plan events, fundraises, and does administrative work.
A product of Arie Crown Hebrew Day School, Ida Crown Jewish Academy, and JCC Chavayah Overnight Camp for Girls, Shira currently spends Shabbats at Congregation KINS of West Rogers Park.
In addition to Yachad, she gives back by visiting with a woman with multiple sclerosis. "She's in a wheelchair, so she's not able to get out a lot. I sit and talk with her, [we] listen to music, and we play games."
As her mentor describes her: "Shira lends a kind hand to others, while consistently complimenting anyone around her. She lights up a room and makes all of those around her feel exceptional!"
