The JUF Uptown Cafe is a restaurant-style meals program staffed by volunteer waitpersons that feeds the hungry while nourishing their spirts. The Cafe serves dinner three nights a week and Sunday brunch and provides a dignified setting for nutritious food, connections to the community, and access to comprehensive EZRA programming and task-based case management.

EZRA's health programming focuses on self-care and preventative health in order to contribute to a stronger, healthier community. Healthy Advantage provides an opportunity for community members to enrich their physical health and well-being through wellness classes, exercise groups, cooking demonstrations, and health screenings. Our incredible community partners allow us to offer regular access to the Advocate Illinois Masonic Mobile Dentistry Program and the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois Kidney Mobile.

Because access to food is a critical need, EZRA operates a client-choice model food pantry that is accessible on a weekly basis to all clients. EZRA is part of the Greater Chicago Food Depository network, which, combined with Amazon wish list donations and food drives, allows us to keep our pantry stocked with healthy foods. Additionally, our hygiene pantry offers personal care and household items on a monthly basis.

The core of our service system is skill building. Emergency and Financial Services (EFS) provides comprehensive support to people in crisis and offers services and programming with the goal of helping clients increase financial literacy and reach financial self-efficacy. Interventions include advocacy on behalf of our clients, financial assistance, budgeting, and case management.

Stabilization often includes securing new or better employment, which EZRA is proud to offer onsite through partnership with JVS Chicago. Vocational counselors from JVS Chicago are available to provide assessment and placement for persons hoping to enter the workforce, upgrade their level of employment, and enroll in training or rehabilitation programs. A computer resource center is available to participants of the vocational program.

In order to reduce isolation and support the needs of Chicago's Russian speaking immigrant community, EZRA's Russian Senior Center (RSC) offers educational, civic, and social programs to individuals whose primary language is Russian. RSC also provides cultural and skill-building programming, including ESL and computer literacy. Other services include connections to benefits, translation, advocacy on behalf of our clients, case management, and support in times of crisis.  Нажмите сюда, чтобы получить информацию на русском языке

At EZRA, our Jewish values guide all aspects of our work to empower clients in achieving their best quality of life. This is especially evident in our Chevrah Jewish programming, which aims to create, foster, and grow an inclusive Jewish community by ensuring that Jews in need have opportunities to stay connected to their heritage and enrich their Jewish identities. We offer education opportunities for people of all faiths to learn about Judaism side-by-side.

We work to advance EZRA’s mission through advocacy efforts and empower clients to take action on issues that impact their daily lives. Our core issues areas are: affordable housing, civic engagement, income equality, health care, and hunger. We conduct legislative advocacy, serve on community coalitions, and present trainings and information sessions for community members. We work closely with the JUF Government Affairs department in Chicago, Springfield, and Washington D.C.
