On behalf of issues of importance to the Jewish community, the Government Affairs office is a catalyst for change: building relationships with government and civic decision-makers, engaging the Jewish community to add their voices to the debate, troubleshooting within bureaucracies, and lobbying in Chicago, Springfield, and Washington, D.C.
Since 1900, the Jewish United Fund has provided assistance to the most vulnerable metropolitan Chicago residents of all ages and faiths through a network of more than 70 health and social service agencies. JUF is the central fundraising arm of Chicago’s Jewish community, allocating more than $190 million annually to local Federation affiliates and agencies overseas, including in Israel. In 2018, more than $400 million in federal, state, and local funding expanded our ability to help many attain, maintain, and regain their well-being.
Over the years, the Government Affairs Office has had much success strengthening relationships with elected and appointed federal, state and local officials, as well as national, state and local coalitions and trade groups, and advocating for a variety of pressing policy and legislative issues.
