Why we do it

“Three things are of equal importance—earth, humans and rain…Without earth, there is no rain, and without rain, the earth cannot endure, and without either, humans cannot exist.”

Genesis Rabbah 13:3

Our dedication to protecting the environment rests on four principles:

1. The environment is an issue of global importance

2. Judaism holds that nature is a gift presented to humanity whose task it is to secure it and protect it

3. Energy independence is crucial to national security

4. Many of our environmental initiatives promoting energy efficiency can save individuals and institutions money
