Selma Blair to headline Spring Event on May 31

Through more than three decades of acting, Selma Blair has told many other people’s stories. She is best known for her portrayals in pop culture movie classics like Cruel Intentions and Legally Blonde , and more recently appearing as Kris Jenner in 2016’s American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson.

These days, the story that Blair is telling is her own. In both her 2022 memoir, Mean Baby , and her 2021 documentary, Introducing Selma Blair , she opens up about her complicated relationship with her mother, her alcohol addiction, her flirtations with death, and the surprising salvation she discovered in her painful multiple sclerosis diagnosis. She headlines JUF Women’s Philanthropy Spring Event 2023–on Wednesday, May 31–where she will discuss everything from her Jewish day school upbringing in Detroit to her experience with multiple sclerosis.

Sharon Koltin, JUF Women’s Board, and Emily Pevnick, JUF Young Women’s City Council, are serving as Overall Chairs of the event. “Spring Event offers the opportunity to share positivity, meaning, and togetherness,” said Pevnick. “I am looking forward to seeing women hear from Selma Blair, an iconic Jewish woman with a gift for storytelling. We are also looking forward to welcoming many new women to the event, to share all JUF Women’s Philanthropy has to offer.”

Blair received a Grammy nomination for her powerful reading of  The Diary of Anne Frank. In 2017, she was named one of  Time magazine’s People of The Year.

“Selma Blair embodies the essence of the human spirit, with her inner strength and resilience in living with MS,” said Koltin. “It is so exciting to bring so many women together, to support our community and Jewish communities around the world.”

Spring Event will be held on May 31, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at Ateres Ayala, 3412 Touhy Ave., in Skokie.
