Herman was born in Odessa, Ukraine where he spent the first 8 years of his life. He immigrated to Chicago in the early 90's with his family as part of the Soviet Jewish wave of immigrants. Chicago is where he started learning about his Jewish identity living in the Rogers Park neighborhood and attending Arie Crown day school. Herman grew up in Chicago attending Von Steuben Chicago Public High School. He received his Bachelors of Business Administration degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison, after which he went into Wealth Management. Several years later, Herman received his MBA from University of Chicago Booth School of Business. While working on his MBA, Herman was also a member of the RSJ Moishe House, through which he met his wife Tanya.
Herman currently works in Private Wealth Management at U.S. Bank. He lives in Chicago's Lakeshore East neighborhood with his wife Tanya and their two sons Benjamin and Mark who are 5 and 1.5 years old, respectively. He also sits on the board of his condo building and is involved in several of the committees. Herman is an avid traveler having visited over 40 countries and 6 of the 7 continents. He also loves the outdoors and likes to rock climb, snowboard, scuba dive, camp and hike.
