Orlie Weitzman is a junior at the University of Chicago Laboratory schools, where she is the Opinion Editor for the award-winning student newspaper U-High Midway, co-founder of the Poets Society, Maroon Mentor co-chair for the Maroon Key Society, and a peer leader. Passionate about the intersection of Judaism and immigration justice, she volunteers with the Hyde Park Refugee Project as a summer camp counselor and weekly tutor, and tutors’ middle schoolers in English and History. Orlie works as a research assistant for Professor Marianne Bertrand of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, with whom she is involved in an ongoing study on the rise of ideological polarization between men and women. She leads a children’s service at her synagogue Congregation Rodfei Zedek, and is a teacher trainee for a creative movement class at her local dance school. In her free time, she loves exploring the city with her friends, listening to all genres of music, and learning about history and politics.
