December TOV Relief Missions

TOV, the volunteer arm of the Jewish United Fund, is offering two meaningful hands-off opportunities to help those affected by the devastating recent hurricanes.

Sounth Carolina Mission

Monday, December 3 - Wednesday, December 5

On September 14, Hurricane Florence stuck the Carolinas causing massive flooding and widespread damage. Join TOV as we head to Horry County, South Carolina to lend critical man-power to the affected region with partner on the ground, NECHAMA - Jewish Response to Disaster.

Puerto Rico Mission

Sunday, December 16 - Thursday, December 20

Hurricane Maria is regarded as the worst natural disaster to strike Puerto Rico. The tropical storm caused widespread devastation to homes and businesses, leaving an already fragile economy in shreds. More than a year later, many homes have sustained water and damage that has yet to be repaired. The trip will also include special visits with humanitarian organization IsraAID, a JUF partner building a water filtration system in rural Puerto Rico.

  Registration is closed

The deadline to apply is November 5.

Please note that space is limited.

Volunteers will help make basic home repairs so that families can live in them safely. We'll be focusing on repairing concrete roofs, rebuilding tin roofs, installing windows and doors, tree work and some demolition. The work is physical and requires volunteers to stand for 8 hours a day and oftentimes, lift heavy objects.

No prior experience is necessary—all training occurs on the ground by a NECHAMA professional. All volunteers must be 14 years of age or older. Any volunteers under 18 must have a parent or guardian present.

Flights will be purchased by JUF. Volunteers will be responsible for their hotel room. Details will be sent to you once you have been accepted. All other costs on the ground (including food and transportation) will be subsidized by JUF.

Thank you for your dedication to tikkun olam, repairing the world. We couldn't do what we do without you. We hope you can join us as we lend our support to these communities in need.

TOV has partnered with disaster relief organizations NECHAMA - Jewish Response to DisasterNY Says Thank You, and IsraAID as a way to allow members of the community to give back after natural disasters strike. TOV has coordinated disaster relief trips in response to hurricanes, tornadoes, and flooding in Illinois, Louisiana, Oklahoma, New York, Puerto Rico, and Texas. There is no experience or skill required for these trips, just a desire to do good while getting a little dirty!
