Yael Brunwasser

Yael Brunwasser

Yael has been the Director of TOV since 2010, overseeing the JUF Uptown Cafe, JUF Community Legal Services, disaster relief, Goldman Sachs community TeamWorks and general operations at TOV. She is passionate about social impact and is inspired by the immense generosity of our community. Yael graduated from the University of Michigan (go blue!) with a degree in English Literature and received a Masters in Nonprofit Management from Spertus Institute. She is a three-time marathon runner, and helped launch JUF’s inaugural marathon team. Her favorite TOV projects have been disaster relief missions where she became adept at power tools. Yael is an avid traveler and is always dreaming up her next adventure. When not globetrotting, Yael loves hearing live music and flexing her newfound culinary skills.

Marissa Comin

Marissa Comin
Assistant Director

Marissa has been part of the TOV team since 2010. She is responsible for a variety of programming including Good Deeds Day and MLK Day, and she serves as a volunteer concierge helping to customize individual and group projects. Marissa’s favorite TOV program is Good Deeds Day.  She loves it so much that in 2018, she brought her then-six-week-old son to participate, jump-starting his tikkun olam journey and making him the youngest TOV volunteer ever!  Marissa feels fortunate to partner with an ever-growing list of incredible non-profits throughout Chicagoland in order to make giving back easily accessible for volunteers of all ages. Prior to working at JUF, Marissa earned her MSW from the Jane Addams College of Social Work at UIC. Outside of the office, you can usually find Marissa volunteering with her friends and family, going to concerts (the smaller the venue the better), or spending time with her son!

Program Associate

Ali has been with TOV since 2015. As TOV’s Program Associate, Ali oversees Mitzvah Manias, TOV Reads, and young adult/young family programming. Prior to working at JUF, Ali worked for Keshet, a JUF agency that assists individuals with special needs and their families. Ali found her passion for nonprofit organizations when she joined Best Buddies in college, an association that provides the opportunity to enhance one-to-one friendships for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Ali is extremely passionate about working at JUF and helping connect our community to worthwhile causes. Outside of the office Ali loves baking, checking out Chicago’s trendiest new restaurants, running, listening to Mumford and Sons (particularly at their live shows!), and spending as much time with friends and family as possible.   

Kat Childress

Katherine Childress
Uptown Cafe Coordinator

Katherine joined TOV in 2018. As TOV’s Uptown Cafe Coordinator, Katherine oversees singing up volunteers for the dining services at the Uptown Cafe. Before working at JUF, Katherine worked for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Chicago as a Development Coordinator. Kat discovered her passion for nonprofit organizations as a teen; volunteering for different organizations across the city. While in undergrad at Roosevelt University Kat held a student leader position in service and pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, INC where she helped shape programming for the campus community and city- wide. Katherine is passionate about giving back and connecting with various communities. Outside of the office Katherine enjoys traveling, makeup, and spending time with friends and family.
