Naomi Senser

Grants Chair

Naomi Senser was raised in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. She was raised in a very dedicated and active Jewish home. Naomi grew up in a predominately Jewish neighborhood, attending Hebrew school and Jewish summer camp in addition to seeking religious growth through USY. Naomi’s formative years in USY, especially her powerful experience being in Israel the summer preceding the Yom Kippur War in 1973, deepened her sense of Jewish identity and responsibility, laying the foundation for a lifelong commitment to community, education, and leadership.

Involvement in the Jewish community and support for women’s causes have always been central to Naomi’s life. During her time in medical school, Naomi led women’s issues and reproductive rights conversations, using her passion to engage and educate those around her. She later left a busy pediatric practice to raise her family and become more involved with her children’s school. From enrolling her children in Schechter Day School to pursuing a master’s degree at the Spertus Institute, this lifelong commitment to Jewish values has directly transitioned into Naomi’s leadership in JWF.

Serving as the President of SHALVA, a Jewish domestic abuse agency, and now the JWF Grants Chair, Naomi leads a philanthropic life, advancing Jewish values and women’s causes. Rooted in the Jewish ideals of collective responsibility and justice, Naomi’s drive stems from a refusal to accept societal limitations placed on women.

After five years as the Health & Wellbeing Subcommittee Chair, Naomi witnessed the transformative power of Jewish women working together. The impact was not only measurable, but also deeply personal. Relationships forged through JWF’s mission-driven work have become a source of strength and inspiration.

As Naomi reflects on her journey, one truth stands out: “It’s not just a social thing. It is more powerful than that.”
