Celebrating the students who shape our community

Matt Lorch

Bradley Hillel interns welcome new and returning students at the beginning of the fall semester with mini golf.

Bradley University Hillel is a small but flourishing Hillel, with only one full-time staff member—me. As Executive Director, I’m so privileged to do this work.

But from fundraising to planning programs to shoveling snow, the tasks sometimes feel endless. That’s why I’m so grateful to be surrounded by incredible student leaders and interns.

Students lie at the heart of our organization’s growth and success. They bring their time, talent, and enthusiasm to Hillel each year. Our student interns and student leaders do far more than support daily operations—they help shape our programs, strengthen our sense of community, and ensure that our spaces remain warm, welcoming, and inclusive for everyone who walks through our doors.

From the start of their Hillel involvement, student interns step into roles that require curiosity, responsibility, and creativity. They come with fresh ideas, ask thoughtful questions, and approach challenges with energy and openness. Whether assisting with program development, supporting events, engaging with their fellow students, or helping behind the scenes, their contributions are felt in ways both visible and subtle.

These student leaders serve as role models and connectors within our community. Through their leadership, they create an environment where people feel seen, supported, and encouraged to participate. They help set the tone for collaboration and respect, modeling empathy and professionalism in every interaction. Their ability to balance leadership with approachability plays a key role in fostering the welcoming atmosphere that defines our organization.

With the help of these incredible students, we’ve transformed programs from ideas into meaningful experiences. Their diverse perspectives help us better serve our community, ensuring that our work remains relevant, responsive, and inclusive. Their voices help guide decisions, improve processes, and remind us of the importance of listening and learning from one another.

Our students bring warmth to our shared spaces, build friendships across teams, and create a sense of belonging that extends beyond any single project or semester. Their presence reminds us that community is built through everyday moments—offering a helping hand, welcoming someone new, or showing up with enthusiasm and care.

As students move on to new opportunities, they leave a lasting impact on our organization and on the people they have worked alongside. We’re deeply grateful for their commitment, leadership, and generosity of spirit.

Thank you to all of our student interns and student leaders for helping to shape not only what we do, but who we are. You truly make Hillel the home for Jewish life on campus.
