Yom HaShoah Commemoration: The Unfinished History of a Nazi Plunder
April 19, 2026 • Sunday, 2:00 pm - Sunday, 5:00 pm
From 1933 to 1945, the Nazi regime orchestrated a campaign of
cultural annihilation, seizing one-fifth of all artwork in Europe—
the vast majority stolen from Jewish families. For many, the theft
did not end with the war.
We invite you to a special screening of Plunderer, the chilling
true story of Bruno Lohse. An ambitious dealer turned personal
looter for Hermann Göring, Lohse spent decades after the war
trading stolen masterpieces and influencing elite American
museums from the shadows.
The highlight of the afternoon will be an in-depth post-film
discussion with Jonathan Petropoulos, the renowned historian
who spent five years unravelling Lohse’s web of complicity.
This is a rare opportunity to engage directly with the man who
brought these secrets to light and to discuss the ongoing fight
for restitution.
This poignant afternoon will also include a candle-lighting ceremony
featuring Survivors and descendants of Survivors, and memorial prayers by
Rabbi Steven Lowenstein and Cantor Andrea Rae Markowicz of Am Shalom.
