Paul Eugene Schneider
LEGACIES AND ENDOWMENTS STAFF
Paul Schneider was patriotic, smart, and hard working. He died September 28, 2020, at the age of 95.
Paul grew up in the South Shore neighborhood and attended Hyde Park High School before joining the army. Because he had poor vision, Paul memorized the eye chart so that he could pass his vision test, which he did. As a Jew and an American, Paul was determined to fight the Nazis. Paul served as a combat medic with the 5th Armored Division in Europe. In combat, Paul was severely injured by a landmine.
By the end of the war, he was awarded two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars. His injuries required over 50 surgeries and almost three years in a Veterans Hospital. Afterwards, Paul attended Northwestern University, graduating first in his class. He then had a prestigious career for over 60 years as a Certified Public Accountant.
With his late wife, Marilyn, Paul had four children. They were married for 25 years before her premature death. Finding love again, Paul married Sylvia and they were married for 42 years. He was a supportive stepfather to her son.
Despite his damaged leg, Paul remained active his entire life, playing tennis and golf. He enjoyed cheering for the Cubs and Bears and was a voracious reader.
Looking out for less fortunate relatives, Paul quietly helped many. As a Silver Circle member of JUF, he donated to the JUF Annual Campaign for over 25 years and attended numerous events in Chicago and Snowbird activities in Phoenix, Ariz. Paul will be remembered as a fiercely loyal friend, patriot, and family man.
Paul made a gift to the Centennial Campaign during his lifetime. Like Paul, you can create your Jewish legacy by including a bequest to the Jewish Federation in your will or estate plan. For more information, contact Legacies & Endowments at (312-) 357-4853 or email [email protected].
