The Overnight Camp Rated #1 in Parent Satisfaction - and a Leader in Mental Health & Well-Being Parents know that summer camp should be a place for fun and games. It should also be a place where children feel safe, supported, and empowered to thrive. That's why families across Chicagoland and beyond have chosen Camp Ben Frankel (CBF), recognized three years in a row as the #1 Jewish overnight camp in North America in parent satisfaction surveys conducted by the Foundation for Jewish Camp. In addition to our warm, inclusive Jewish community, CBF has earned national recognition for its focus on mental health and camper well-being. Our innovative programs and highly trained staff ensure that campers not only have the time of their lives, but also gain tools for confidence, resilience, and emotional growth that last long after the summer ends. Nestled in the stunning Shawnee National Forest of Southern Illinois, CBF is small by design, with enrollment limited to 115 campers. This intimate setting allows every child to be known and supported, while friendships naturally blossom across age groups. Campers design their own summer by choosing from 100+ elective activities - from sports, aquatics, and arts to STEM, adventure, and creative outlets like Dungeons & Dragons and cooking. Our facilities include air-conditioned cabins, a sports complex, ropes course, and zip line, surrounded by hiking trails and natural beauty. But what truly sets us apart is the heart of our community: passionate counselors, a culture of inclusivity, and leadership that puts mental health and camper care at the center of everything we do. For over 75 years, Camp Ben Frankel has been helping Jewish children ages 7-17 build resilience, confidence, and lifelong friendships in a supportive, down-to-earth Jewish environment.
