Remembering the fallen on Yom HaZikaron (Remembrance Day)

Yom HaZikaron
ISRANET
Family, friends and colleagues in arms gathered by the graves of the fallen at cemetaries across Israel Wednesday.

At 11 a.m. May 7, Israel came to a virtual standstill as sirens wailed across the country for two minutes to mark Yom HaZikaron – Remembrance Day. Services were held in military cemeteries all over Israel as family and friends came together to memorialize those who gave their lives to protect the country. At dusk this evening the mood will change as the 60th Independence Day is celebrated with parades and fireworks.

In Chicago the Consulate General of Israel to the Midwest sponsored a ceremony at Beth Hillel Congregation Bnai Emunah on Tuesday, May 06. The event included remarks by Consul General Barukh Binah and remarks by Steven Dishler, director of International Affairs of JUF’s Jewish Community Relations Council.
